Thought & Found

A random thought... not a brainstorming session, nor an idea stuck in your head since the time you were trying hard to sleep. What makes an idea, a thought, a notion feel random? Is it thinking about food when a lecture is soooo boring? Is it wondering what life actually is? Is it the sudden plan sprouting in your head to beat the hell out of your sibling, without considering the consequential beating—plus interest—waiting for you?

Random as it is, any thought that doesn’t fit with the situation or surroundings qualifies for this section. Hence, the name—random thought.

Why do men leave? There are no possible answers for that! What makes a human strive for every breath we inhale? What makes our minds jump from philosophy to science, to math, to something unimaginably imaginative? The power only humans, as creatures of this world, have ever misunderstood and very literally overlooked. Do we ever think about thinking? Thinking about thinking is thinking about what to think about thinking. That’s counterintuitive—but let’s take a break and think about why we, as humans, think. What made us the most sophisticated thinkers in this universe (probably)? Why do we even have the capability to do so? Does everyone have the capacity to think like this? (Not talking about stoned, high minds that are in no way human.) Maybe we were destined to think.

Thoughts—the thing that turns Homo sapiens into humans. Thoughts are the reason humans strive to climb the hill. Thoughts are the backbone of the journey, the reason for society’s existence, and the reason for its collapse. Maybe thoughts are why nations rise—and then hit rock bottom. Why do we have rights? Why do we have feelings? Why do we have an inner voice?

Do we ever consider that the thought we are currently having might be the very thought that, in our deep, dark inner peace of mind, we want to become reality? Every love, hate, kindness, harshness, compassion, cruelty, euphoria, depression, admiration, disdain, empathy, coldness, contentment, frustration, serenity, agitation, generosity, greed, patience, irritation, fulfillment, emptiness, relief, distress, belonging, loneliness, determination, hopelessness, amusement, annoyance—what do they all start as?

A thought.

Thinking is something humans have the sole copyright to, in this brutal world where anything can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere, in this never-ending, complicated, ever-burdening, overly simplified yet happy thing called life. To live a life without leaving the part is to leave the life while living it in pieces.

Thoughts are what take humans from striking two stones together to striking two atoms into each other. Thoughts are the reason we write epic poems, epic stories, epic tales, and so much more. Do we ever wonder why there are so many wonders in our world? Do we ever think about what makes us take that decisive, life-turning, world-colliding step when nothing seems simple? Life, simply put, is a journey where everything happens between breaths—between the last and the first. Life… as it is, happens because of a random thought—one that transforms mere breathing into truly living.

A random thought of saying "hi" may one day lead you to the love of your life. A random thought that the person beside you is the one who stands by you through all your shenanigans. The realization that the person right next to you might be the best companion you've ever found. This living creature who nurtures your mind and hopes to one day know you better—that’s the random thought that sparks another. That’s what makes you, a formidable, energy-consuming, universe-bending piece of existence, think about the thought of finding the love of your life.

Have we ever stopped to consider that humans take thinking for granted? Yet, only humans can think to a level that defies nature itself. And history proves it—because if not, we would have gone extinct just like our cousins who chose a different path. Maybe thinking is what gave us the ability to push forward, despite our weak, muscle-lacking bodies, to the pinnacle of the known universe. Maybe thinking is what makes humankind the best.

Thoughts are our ally when we hit rock bottom. Thoughts are our ally when we soar through the skies. Quite literally, thoughts make us what we are—HUMAN.

Let’s appreciate the idea of thinking by thinking about thinking. This is my small effort to shine a light on the part of life we have taken for granted—the crucial element that defines us. The good, the bad, and the countless other labels we assign each other—all of it stems from thought. Let us appreciate the simple notion that, without thinking, humankind might have been the lowest. Instead, thinking is the most beautiful thing ever.

Let’s thank the mighty force—whatever it may be—for the power bestowed upon us, the power that is uniquely ours.
